Have you clicked that magic option that allows your Facebook posts to automatically tweet out? Have you ever seen what they look like?
They look like this:
No offense to Inyo National Forest – they are only one of many of these tweets I see coming through my feed. What is the likelihood that I’m going to click on that link just on the off-chance that INF has something interesting to share with me? Not very likely… these are the tweets I scroll on past.
But consider this one:
This one has a lead-in, a hint of what I will find when I click over to the FB post. There’s much more likelihood in a click over to that Facebook feed than the first. So how to make your tweets coming from Facebook ones that will get some interaction?
First, consider customizing your posts to fit the platform. You can share the same content across platforms, and if you’re using a dashboard like Buffer or Edgar it is easy to quickly create a 140 character tweet and a meatier Facebook post with the same links back to your blog or website. Second, if you can’t be bothered or don’t have the time – at least add a description to the photo you are posting so that something shows up on the tweet outside of a link. See this post for some hints.
Third, remember that your audience on Twitter is much different than your audience on Facebook and make the most of your time by spending enough time on each platform to understand when and what to post. Instead of sending your tweets out into a noisy world without a plan, learn how to utilize a dashboard and make your tweets count.
